Los Angeles Pierce College computer science student, Jessica Babos made the decision to switch from studying Administration of Justice to Computer Science after her first year attending college. After her second year, she decided to get some real-world experience within the field and was introduced to Network Kinection who helped her obtain a position with Best Buy's Geek Squad.
In her own words, Jessica shares her experience with Geek Squad and how it has helped her apply her Computer Science coursework to real situations.
I have already gained so much valuable information and it has helped me apply my studies as a Computer Science major to real world situations.
I am a Computer Science major and have always been interested in learning how to code since I was little. It was not until my first year in college that I realized how many opportunities there are for this field and made the decision to switch from Administration of Justice to Computer Science. After my second year of majoring in Computer Science, I realized I needed to gain some real-world experience in the technology field. With the help of Kaylee, I was able to land a job at Best Buy as a part of their Geek Squad. By understanding customers’ technology issues, I am able to provide knowledgeable technology solutions and support for customers.
One of the main struggles I faced was learning all of the rules and regulations for Geek Squad when performing everyday tasks. However, I realized that learning these things takes time and patience, and that I should not hesitate to ask questions.
By working closely with technology, I have already gained so much valuable information and it has helped me apply my studies as a Computer Science major to real world situations. I would recommend that everyone should try and put themselves out there to get a job relating to their field of study. I believe the most important step in doing so is having an updated resume that is centered around your schoolwork and experience.
